There are a few "this does this doesn't" sort of oddities that you can use but mostly just build your screws/blocks/pipe sections out of iron.Īlso you can use a magma piston. I think my stack was like 33 high.Īlso note that you need to make your pumps out of mostly magma safe materials. If you want to do it more easily, create a world without cavern layers and magma should only be like 15/20 z-levels down. You're going to want to try and find a way down that you can build your stack in through all your cavern layers without breaching into them, otherwise you're going to have to construct more crap around the pumps and that is a pain.Īlso remember to not get distracted by just making pump components and your stack and then getting murdered by crossbows and having to reclaim your fortress. You'll still lose a bunch more than if you were pump stacking water due to temperature calculations. This is only relevant to magma and helps avoid a massive loss in framerate. Where you pump into should be a 3x1 bar so that your stack looks like a T. So, how the fuck do you pump magma up, without using manual pumps? I feel like having some fun. Thanks would have thought these were easy things for Toady to fix in a quick bug fix, but since so much time has passed since his last update I'm afraid he's just been working on the larger Caravan arc and not fixing the little annoyances. Obviously I can fix this by giving them nicknames, but it was annoying how I'd try to create three squads so I could rotate my troops to active duty, but then realize the third squad took some members out of the first squad and so I have to repopulate the first squad. (A danger room is certainly cool, but at least in the previous versions of DF, the sparing and training worked a lot better.)Īlso, it bothers me that the military menu will show me a list of available dwarfs but not tell me if they're already in a squad. It should be that sparing should be as effective as a "danger room" in training. This still bothers me that this is the only way to train dwarfs. I have to wait for my power source to not be frozen over before I can really start though. I have to set up a military though or I'm going to regret it. I've almost finished my 40ish z-level high pump stack to start building my giant block of obsidian that I'm going to carve my fortress out of. They get decent archery experience from it. You need _traps_.Īlso another way to can train archery (I remember ranges being a bit shit as well but I use them because they're inside) is to set your guys up to hunt. They get stabbed repeatedly for low amounts of damage and learn how to not get hit, they also get weapon skill if they parry one of the spear thrusts.īut everyone knows you don't need a military to defend and you really don't need traps. Station the dwarves you want to train in the room with their armour and weapons on and flip the switch to turn on the repeater. Link all the spike traps to the repeater. Then set up a room with stacks of upright spikes made from wooden training spears (the maximum number you can place on a square, on every square). You want to set up a repeater of your choice. What was the last actual workin version?Īlso you don't want to train people by having them spar. I have like 40 recruits and maybe only 10 actual fighters. I have a goblin siege out there with 50 goblins and no way to deal with it. No one uses the archery targets or even picks up my crossbows/bolts/quivers. Even when they do they just get pissed off at long duty times and setting the squads schedules up is tedious as hell. I got them to sparr but I am pretty sure they aren't gaining any skills. There is no way to tell if they are or aren't. The other annoying part is unless you have them training they will return to being citizens so all the "available" dorfs are actually already in a previous squad. For some reason the way the military is now you can't put half your dorfs into the army as they just aren't listed. Or putting the dwarves into the military at all is fucking not working. Managing their equipment now is fucking unbearable. I had tons of marksdwarves and legendary warriors in the old versions but right now I can't get shit to work at all. Before I use to be able to get my dwarves to practice, pick up the right inv, and just manage them effectively. It has been quite awhile since I played so I had to do a lot of reading up when I saw all the different menus. The way military is handled now is just not working out for me.
